CIHT East Midlands are pleased to offer this webinar with Dr James Grenfell, Principal Professional Leader, Portfolio Leader for Sustainable Infrastructure Materials, within Sustainability and Materials Performance at The National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO) in Australia.
This talk will describe the transport infrastructure network in Australia. It will go on to introduce the use of recycled materials and sustainable road construction treatments in Australia. It will provide the audience with an understanding of the benefits of key recycled materials and sustainable construction techniques, whilst providing an overview of their implementation pathways. This will be done by covering case studies which have included applied research, specification development and field trials.
This will be of most interest to pavement engineers, sustainability experts, and anyone interested in implementing recycled materials.
Dr James Grenfell - Principal Professional Leader, Portfolio Leader for Sustainable Infrastructure Materials, within Sustainability and Materials Performance, The National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO) – formerly the Australian Road Research Board
James is a Principal Pavement Engineer at NTRO with more than 20 years’ experience in the field of transportation engineering and transport infrastructure materials. He has been working within Sustainability and Materials Performance since the beginning of 2020. This has allowed him to use his materials and pavement engineering expertise to help implement recycled materials and sustainable solutions into transport engineering in Australia.
He has been involved in many projects which have covered crumb rubber, recycled plastics, recycled crushed glass and demolition waste, amongst others. This work has involved the development of specifications, standards and guidelines as well as undertaking the underpinning research and running field trials. Previously, he was working within pavement structures, having joined ARRB in February 2017. Initially, his work focused on Improving the cost effectiveness of foamed bitumen-stabilised pavements and increasing the use of low-cost modified granular materials in new and rehabilitated pavements.
