Once you have successfully completed the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) assessment you will be eligible to register as a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP). 

Transport Planning Professional Review 

This webinar covers an overview of the requirements and routes to gaining Chartered Transport Planning Professional, the professional benchmark of competence for experienced transport planners.

What is the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualification?

The Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualification was developed by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and the Transport Planning Society (TPS).

Candidates for the TPP qualification need to demonstrate an appreciation of a broad range of transport planning procedures and techniques, and a competence to work effectively in their chosen areas of the profession. Successfully completing the TPP qualification means you can register as a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP).

What you need to become Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualified

• Be a member of CIHT, TPS or CILT.
• Provide evidence that you have achieved an appropriate level of learning, either through the attainment of formal qualifications and/or structured vocational training or through submission of a report which demonstrates achievement of the learning outcomes to the satisfaction of CIHT and TPS.
• Demonstrate competence across a broad range of transport planning procedures and managerial techniques.
• Have practical experience in transport planning and have been engaged in a variety of transport planning projects to demonstrate the breadth and depth of competence required for the TPP qualification.
• Prepare a portfolio to demonstrate your competence in transport planning. 
• Be able to show that you have undertaken a minimum of 25 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) a year for at least two years prior to making your TPP application.

You are likely to need at least five years’ experience in transport planning and to have been engaged on a variety of transport planning projects to demonstrate the breadth and depth of competence required to gain the qualification.

How to apply for the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualification

There are several routes to gaining the qualification depending on your academic qualifications and level of experience in the profession to-date.

Standard

Hold a UK Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Hold an approved UK Transport Master's degree.

If you are eligible for the Standard Route, you will be able to proceed directly to Professional Review which consists of the submission of a Portfolio of Evidence and attendance at a Professional Review interview.

Your completed Portfolio of Evidence should be sent as a PDF to education@ciht.org.uk 

Note: If you have also completed an approved TPS Professional Development Scheme, you will be eligible for the Standard Route.

Appendix 1 TPP Competence Requirements

PTK

Hold a UK Bachelor's degree or equivalent but do not hold an approved UK Transport Master's degree.

The purpose of a PTK is to demonstrate that you have the required underpinning knowledge of transport planning processes to proceed to Professional Review.

Senior

Have extensive experience as a senior project manager/director across a range of transport planning skills and have made a substantial contribution to the transport planning profession over your career to date.
