CIHT have launched a new guideline on Planning for Cycling at an event in London. This event gave delegates the opportunity to discuss the new guidance with the authors Rob Gallagher and John Parkin as well as hearing from other leading practitioners in the sector.

The guidance itself shows how cycling is an important part of urban transport and highlights how cycling’s role has been neglected in the UK, with the focus having been mainly on the needs of motor traffic.

Andrew Hugill, Director of Policy & Technical Affairs said:
“Cycling is one of the most sustainable forms of transport, and increasing its use has great potential. To release this potential, highways, public spaces and other rights-of-way need to be organised accordingly.”

A copy of this guideline is available here CIHT -  CIHT - Planning for CyclingCIHT - Planning for Cycling

This guideline forms part of the Streets and Transport in the Urban Environment series and additional guidance will be developed and released in due course.
If you wish to discuss any of the issues raised in this guidance please contact CIHT on e: technical@ciht.org.uk
