We have enhanced our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Charter, to help you shift the dial on EDI.
We are working to ensure commitment within the sector becomes meaningful action and that the bar is continually raised. We have revisited the original CIHT EDI Charter to help drive progress and sector-wide learning.
Commitment statement - we have updated our Charter statement to reflect our enhanced EDI Charter.
Self-reflection template – we are encouraging signatories to share examples of EDI in action.
Renewal / sign up – new signatories are encouraged to provide examples of their EDI practice. Signatories will renew their status annually, sharing further examples of EDI in action to demonstrate meaningful progress.
Join our EDI Charter Signatory Peer Support Network – where signatories can learn from peer organisations and share examples of best practice, –challenges, approaches and solutions.
Our EDI Charter is aimed at any organisation that operates within the Highways, Transportation and Infrastructure sector, irrespective of size, structure and context.
We will facilitate and encourage shared learning as not all organisations may have dedicated EDI resources.

CIHT takes a supportive approach to shifting the dial on EDI – through sharing resources, giving signatories autonomy and enabling flexibility in their approach to EDI.
We are avoiding being prescriptive and are reducing tick-box administration for signatory organisations.
We encourage organisations to sign up and demonstrate their genuine commitment to EDI in action.

As we are supporting greater accountability and transparency from signatories, we are encouraging signatories to renew their Charter status annually.
Signatories will be asked to complete our Self-reflection template including sharing examples of further EDI progress in action. We will work with signatories to highlight examples of relevant activity that should be included.
Once you have contacted us we will send you CIHT’s:
Once you submit these, we will give you access to CIHT’s EDI Charter Signatory Peer Support Network and EDI Charter logo).
We have purposefully avoided being too prescriptive in our approach as we acknowledge that not all organisations have dedicated resources.
We can provide some guidance as to what examples could include, e.g., from a headline EDI strategy to anonymised diversity data, projects and initiatives and more – demonstrating and celebrating progress that other signatories can learn from.
Sharing examples demonstrates your commitment to progressing EDI and can support organisations across the sector to learn from best practice.
We will maintain a database of signatories; executive EDI leads and evidence of EDI progress in action. We will invite signatories to access CIHT’s EDI Charter Signatory Peer Support Network, attend EDI-related events, training and more – all supporting you to shift the dial on EDI.
