The CIHT Northern Ireland Awards celebrate the very best the region offers across the key areas of highways and transportation.
They are open to everyone - small and large organisations - public, private sector and third sector. The awards recognise the outstanding contribution that good projects and people make to our daily lives.

The Project of the Year Award is to recognise excellence within the highways and transportation industry, where a significant positive benefit has been achieved. It can relate to design or construction stages. Consider: Enterprise and ingenuity in the current climate crisis; A project that has overcome challenges to continue operation and/or implementation; Performance measures; Wider implementation potential; Benefit to the Client /User, and Cost benefit (if applicable). The submission will be judged against the following criteria (equal weighting to all categories):

The Active Travel Project of the Year Award is to recognise an excellent active travel project, where a significant positive benefit has been achieved. It can relate to design or construction stages. Consider: Enterprise and ingenuity in the current climate crisis; A project that has overcome challenges to continue operation and/or implementation; Performance measures; Wider implementation potential; Benefit to the Client /User, and Cost benefit (if applicable). The submission will be judged against the following criteria (equal weighting to all categories):
This Award recognises projects, products, policy initiatives or strategies delivered by the highways and transportation industry that can demonstrate a contribution to sustainable working and living in the region specifically considering the climate change challenges and the UNs Sustainable Development goals. The judges of this award will be looking for entries that show a clear commitment to one or more of the UN SDGs and demonstrate environmental benefits.
Example UN Sustainable Development Goals include (but not limited to):
Goal 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
Goal 13 – Climate Action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its Impacts
The entry can also demonstrate the delivery of a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and address how the initiative’s implementation has delivered wider financial, economic, and social benefits. The entry must show that the organisation has provided leadership and vision in taking climate action.

This award recognises the significant amount of professional work that is carried out at investigatory and trial stages of projects in industry, or through philanthropic activities. Your submission should detail how your research, innovative trial or product stands as an exemplary piece of work and how it contributes to the betterment of the Highways and Transportation industry.
This is a broad topic, and the subjects are likely to be diverse, but we welcome the opportunity to recognise the professional contribution to society from our members whilst carrying out research and testing new innovations.
This award looks to recognise an outstanding piece of research, innovation or product in the highways and transportation sector which looks to improve the industry by addressing a specific problem. The project or product should have outlined clear targets, with structured methods and be a unique piece of work that has been well communicated to the wider sector.
This award recognises the efforts of a CIHT Member who, in addition to undertaking their duties has proven to be a rising star within the region. During their time within the industry, they consistently go above and beyond their daily duties and make an exceptional contribution to their workplace. Professionalism, dedication to helping others, commitment to sharing best practice amongst colleagues and the wider professional community. The judges are looking for individuals who have made a difference to the organisation they work in. The submission will be judged against the following criteria (equal weighting to all categories):
The entry form can be completed by the individual or a colleague on their behalf. Please provide the nominee's name as the Project Title & their employer as the client on the entry form.
