About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our Capital Projects and Network Management Team as a Senior Engineer (Traffic Projects). In this role, you’ll be primarily working on the end-to-end delivery of traffic, highways, and public realm improvement schemes taking ownership from design development through to completion.

You’ll lead a small team of engineers and technicians, manage budgets, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.

This role offers great scope for professional development, including the opportunity to manage high value, complex projects and broaden your expertise in engineering design, stakeholder engagement, and project leadership within a supportive and collaborative environment.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In

1. The successful candidate will be joining the Capital Projects and Network Management Team, which sits within the Transport and Parking Division.
2. The key aim of our team is to deliver high quality traffic, highways, and public realm improvement schemes that enhance safety, accessibility, and overall travel experience for residents, businesses, and visitors across the borough.
3. Our work directly impacts day-to-day life reducing congestion, improving road safety, supporting sustainable transport, and shaping vibrant, people-friendly streets.
4. The team is made up of skilled professionals including engineers, project managers, and technicians, all working collaboratively to deliver projects from initial concept through to completion.
5. You will report to the Team Leader – Capital Projects & Network Management and will also work alongside colleagues from other council departments, Transport for London, and external consultants to ensure the successful delivery of schemes aligned with local and strategic objectives.

About You

2. Confident managing projects from start to finish, including budget oversight, design, consultation, and delivery.
3. Skilled at translating technical information into clear advice and reports for different audiences, including residents, councillors and contractors.    
4. Comfortable using design software such as AutoCAD and able to interpret technical drawings and engineering plans.
5. Able to think creatively and problem-solve under pressure, particularly when balancing competing priorities or responding to public concerns.
6. Familiar with relevant legislation and guidance related to highways, traffic management and public realm improvements.
