Understanding Disability

“I welcome CIHT’s Learn Initiative and particularly the early release of the short Understanding Disability Course which provides a fundamental background to understanding the issues that create barriers to travel and mobility for many in society. I recommend that this course should be a “must do” for everybody working in the transport and planning sector”.

Bert Bailie, Chairperson, Imtac (Inclusive Mobility and Transport Advisory Committee)

Overview

All our towns and cities are littered with examples of thoughtless planning and provision which create barriers to the independent mobility of many disabled and older people.

The purpose of this course is to make sure that future generations of professionals do not repeat those mistakes and that understanding disability and practicing inclusive design is engrained as an intuitive part of everyday thinking and planning.

Lead Author

Ann Frye OBE, international specialist on the transport needs of disabled and older people, has developed this course to ensure you can understand and apply best practice.
