What is EngTech?

Engineering Technicians (EngTech) apply proven techniques and procedures to the solution of practical engineering problems.

Engineering Technicians are required to apply safe systems of work and are able to demonstrate:

  • Evidence of their contribution to either the design, development, manufacture, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, processes or services
  • Supervisory or technical responsibility
  • Effective interpersonal skills in communicating technical matters
  • Commitment to professional engineering values.

Does this sound like you? If so, then you deserve to see your professionalism recognised through EngTech registration. CIHT are here to support our members throughout their professional registration journey. Get started now by registering for the upcoming webinar.

About the Webinar

In this webinar, you will hear from Stuart Kay who has been an EngTech reviewer for over 10 years. Stuart will provide an insight of what reviewers look for from EngTech candidates in their Portfolio of Evidence submission and what to expect at your interview.

Meet the Speakers

Stuart Kay, Operations and Safety Associate, WSP

Stuart is a civil engineer with 38 years’ experience working for and with the public and private sectors, as well as in contracting.
Currently with WSP in the Operations and Safety team, Stuart's experience in highway maintenance, highway design, collision investigation and road safety engineering has allowed him to apply that knowledge to the Professional Review process.

Stuart has been a CIHT reviewer for over 10 years, covering both EngTech and IEng assessments and continues to be impressed with the dedication and knowledge of applicants sitting their reviews.

Catherine Downes, Civil Engineer, Amey

Catherine is a civil engineer at Amey with more than 12 years’ experience across site development,  infrastructure and traffic projects. She successfully gained her EngTech in November 2020 and on receipt of this, won the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation’s (CIHT) ‘Award for Outstanding Performance at Professional Review’ with subsequent publications on the Engineering Council and CIHT website. Alongside her day to day-to-day role, Catherine is currently doing a part-time degree in Civil Engineering and working towards her next professional qualification IEng. She is also a committed, social value leading figure in the Liverpool office and an active STEM ambassador.

Joe Burlison, Senior Highways Designer, i-Transport

Joe is a senior highways designer with nearly 10 years professional experience. Joe produces feasibility level designs to support clients in achieving planning permission, across a variety of land uses. His work tends to include: access design to new developments; design of off-site junction improvements and enhanced active travel links; input to masterplan/site layout design (including street hierarchy and cross sections); swept path analysis; and Road Safety Audit briefs and design team responses.
