CIHT will be hosting the next monthly masterclass in our webinar series on 17th March 2022 at 13:00-14:00.
The webinar will take place on the GoToWebinar platform and will see a set of presentations from several experts within the industry who will present on the topic of Smart Cities and the role of AI.
There will be a Q&A session towards the end of the webinar where the audience can ask the speakers their questions.
This webinar is free for all CIHT Members to attend and is charged for Non-CIHT-Members and Partner Employees.
Artificial intelligence is taking centre stage as smart cities go from just a notion to reality.
Advanced technologies are at the front of this transformation, enabling useful initiatives and optimising the transportation industry's operations across the board. These technologies are rapidly gaining traction as a means of achieving clean city goals, as well as net-zero commitments.
This 1-hour webinar focuses on how we as a sector can implement sophisticated intelligent transportation technologies and how smart city's traffic can be improved in every aspect. How? Sensors, modern communication technologies, automation, and high-speed networks are all used to accomplish this.
Focusing on smart cities, CIHT want's its members to explore the innovation and technological change in regard to smart transportation and intelligent city traffic management. Moreover, we will delve into how cities handle mobility and emergency response, while simultaneously lowering congestion on city streets.
Presentation: Connectivity – The fuel for the Digital Revolution
Synopsis: Digital Technology is driving safety, environmental and efficiency improvements across infrastructure. All of this technology is reliant on being connected and we need to transport ever increasing amounts of data as the Digital Revolution continues and we adopt more and more technology.
We will look at how we can deliver this connectivity more effectively. What the future holds in relation to connectivity, including 5G and beyond.
We will also look at some of the technology that is shaping our large infrastructure projects (including IoT technology) and how connectivity is influencing and enabling our adoption of this.
Biography: Jay is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the CIHT and ICE, and spent 20+ years as a Civil Engineering Contractor in a variety of sectors with a focus on Highways.
He ultimately was responsible for the South East of England for BAM Nuttall before joining Onwave as Chief Operating Officer in 2019. Onwave deliver connectivity and digital technology for the infrastructure sector working for many of the top infrastructure owners, consultants and contractors.
Presentation: Manual for Smart Streets
Synopsis: Connected Places Catapult is working with the DfT this year to develop the Manual for Smart Streets, a guidance document that can be used in England to inform the approach to delivering ‘smart’ street services involving connected data and new technologies.
This guides how Authorities can recognise the value of new technologies such as AI and use of data, develop their business case, procure, and implement. This also helps to develop the framework for how industry can develop to provide better value for Authorities and grow together.
This presentation will share with the audience an overview of Connected Places Catapult's work to date and approach. The aim is to kick off a set clear set of impactful guidance, to encourage wider adoption and standardisation of services that take advantages of data and technologies.
Biography: Thomas has a relatively diverse background Traffic and Innovation including starting in modelling, design, and implementation of Traffic Signal schemes as an Engineering consultant and then moving into design, implementation, and management of urban traffic programmes as an in-house authority Engineer. He then moved into conducting fundamental research on testing/assurance and standards for self driving vehicles as a Research Engineer at CETRAN.
Currently Thomas is a Principal Engineer at Connected Places Catapult working on a range of projects to accelerate innovation in New Mobility Technologies.
