The event is aimed at early career professionals as well as those studying transport related topics. It is also aimed at anyone with an interest in construction methodologies.
Gemma Patterson, Project Sponsor, Transport Scotland
Gemma is a Chartered Civil Engineer and has worked with Transport Scotland since 2010, with the exception of a 2 year period when she worked in New Zealand. Gemma has worked in both the public and private sectors and has experience of the procurement, design and construction of large infrastructure projects as well as the design and delivery of road maintenance projects.
Gemma is the Project Sponsor for the A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam project.
Chris Hutt, Project Manager, Jacobs
Chris is a Divisional Director within Jacobs, Transport Scotland’s consultants for this project.
Chris is a Chartered Engineer with over 18 years’ experience in the Scottish Highways sector. Chris began his career working on the preconstruction stages of the M80 Stepps to Haggs project before joining the Clackmannanshire Bridge site team. He then spent a number of years working on the Forth Replacement Crossing project before being appointed as Jacobs’ project manager for the A90/A96 Haudagain Improvement Scheme supporting Transport Scotland. Chris has also led the A9 Luncarty to Pass of Birnam scheme from the contract document preparation stage through procurement and into the construction stage.
Alan Brisbane, Contract Manager, Balfour Beatty
Alan is a Contract Manager for Balfour Beatty and was project lead for them on the A9 Dualling Luncarty to Pass of Birnam Scheme.
Alan joined Balfour Beatty as a Graduate in 1992 after earlier employment with both Local Authorities & Consultants.
Across Scotland, Alan has worked on a diverse range of projects including; Clyde Windfarm extension; the Forth and Clyde Canal Millennium reopening; A8 Ballieston Major Maintenance works; M77/Glasgow Southern Orbital; and The Helix/Kelpies at Falkirk.
Locally to Perth, Alan delivered both the junction improvement works at the A9 Ballinluig, and a section of Perths Flood Prevention Scheme, before more recently the first phase of the Perth Transport Futures project at Crieff Road.
Russell T Smith, Designer’s Site Representative (DSR), Atkins
Russell is an Associate Director with Atkins and has over 20 years’ experience delivering some of the most prestigious highway projects in the UK and Ireland; including the Queensferry Crossing and the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR).
Russell has been involved in the A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam since the tender design in 2018. Russell took on the role of Project Manager for the detailed design delivery, which included the delivery of the first BIM Level 2 highway project in Scotland, before moving to site to take up the role of Designer’s Site Representative during construction.
An expert in the delivery of highway projects procured under Design & Build forms of contract, Russell has experience in managing all aspects of whole life project delivery; from procurement, tender design, detailed design, construction supervision and the completion and handover over the Health & Safety File.
