They will share their career peaks; challenges they’ve overcome and their roadmap for a more inclusive future.
This is a joint event with CIHT North West and Women in Transport North West.
This event, jointly organised by CIHT North West and Women in Transport North West, will focus on a panel of three women from different stages of their careers. They will discuss their career highs, the issues they have faced, advice they would give, and what more needs to be done to help attract and retain women in the industry and to create a roadmap for a more inclusive future. The session will be followed by an opportunity for questions and answers and networking.

This event will be chaired by Louise Kenny, Business Performance and Improvements Manager, Colas.
Louise Kenny began her career as a Mechanical Engineer specialising in fibre optic cable design and manufacture. Working in in multiple factories throughout EMEA she discovered a passion for continuous improvement through Lean 6 Sigma methodologies and gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Polymer Engineering. Looking for opportunities to outside of manufacturing she embarked on doing a Master of Business Administration and made the jump to Highways working as a Business and Improvements Manager. Louise was the first person to employ a female Highways Operative back in 2019 and is an advocate of workplace equality.

Eugenia Agell, Corporate Partnerships Manager, Campaign for Better Transport
Eugenia is the Corporate Partnerships Manager at Campaign for Better Transport, a leading UK charity advocating for sustainable transport solutions. She's pursuing a Masters in sustainable development, focusing on decarbonizing transport, especially freight. Previously, she worked at WeMove, a startup offering UK-wide Demand Responsive Transport Logistics. With a background in finance and economics, Eugenia shifted her career towards transport to enhance public and shared transport choices after banking and SaaS roles.
Rubi Sarang, Principal Consultant, Steer
Rubi is a Principal Consultant and Team Manager in the Rail Advisory Team at Steer. She has a background in project management, having worked in the rail industry for over 6 years. She has experience working in Commercial Operations and Rolling Stock and currently manages a portfolio that includes business case development, efficient freight pathing, revenue analysis, infrastructure project assurance, and policy and strategy management. She is also responsible for the Rail Advisory team, which includes resourcing, financial management, and strategic planning. Rubi has always been passionate about diversity and inclusion within the transport sector, leading the race and ethnicity employee research group at Steer. She is also a STEM Ambassador, encouraging careers within the engineering, project management and transport sectors within schools and colleges.
Angela Lopez Garces, Associate Director of Transport Planning, Jacobs
Angela Lopez Garces is an Associate Director of Transport Planning with Jacobs. Through her consultancy roles, she has worked for many clients in the UK and internationally and has witnessed the industry’s growth and evolution over the last 20 years. She started as a graduate in London back in the 2000s and then transferred to Warrington where she developed her skills as a technical lead and project manager. Now in Manchester, she has taken on a new role in framework management and her ongoing client-facing and technical roles. She is a thought leader in gender issues in transportation and has presented her gender research and groundbreaking work at the European Transport Conference and the International Union of Railways. She is passionate about diversity and inclusion, and volunteers with Women in Transport and the Jacobs Women’s Network.
Sue Percy, CEO, Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT)
Sue Percy is the Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation. CIHT is a charity, learned society and membership body whose members are mainly engineers and transport planners, operating in the UK and internationally. Sue’s interests include improving the way transport infrastructure - including roads - is planned, funded, designed, built, managed and operated to meet societal needs, environmental imperatives and supporting a strong economy. She has a deep interest in changing the image of the transport infrastructure industry and making it a more diverse and inclusive career for all.
Sue holds several voluntary Trustee and non-executive Director roles. She has worked in the built environment sector for over 30 years in allied professions, Higher Education and in local government. Sue was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours in June 2019 for services to transport.
