During this session you will hear from various speakers including the Education Team at CIHT, reviewers and members who have recent experience of becoming qualified. They will be able to offer an overview of what’s involved, who is eligible, how to apply and some tips and advice.

Cat Goumal - Head of Education and Professional Development
Cat Goumal is Head of Education and Professional Development at the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation. With over a decade of managing education and professional development for professionals working in construction and the built environment, Cat now leads on all of CIHT's qualifications including the Chartered Transport Planning Professional, Chartered Engineer and the Transport Planning Technician Apprenticeship as well as raising the profile of careers in highways and transportation and ensuring CIHT members develop the skills and knowledge needed to tackle the changing requirements of the sector.
Rachel Fogg, Divisional Resource Manager, Mott Macdonald
Rachel is the Divisional Resource Manager for Mott MacDonald’s Transport and Mobility Solutions Division (TMS). A member of the Executive Leadership Team, she is responsible for people strategy, recruitment, deployment and retention for the Division. She is also responsible for pastoral care and leadership of c. 600 staff across the UK, Europe and India. She has a strong technical background in transport planning, modelling and engineering, and over 10 years’ experience in senior leadership. Rachel is a champion for women in the industry and an enthusiastic promotor of a positive safety culture. She is a Fellow of the CIHT and a reviewer for CEng, IEng and EngTech qualifications.
Leanne Farrow, Leeds City Council
Leanne Farrow is a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP). After 17 years working in the private sector as a transport planning consultant with Mott MacDonald and JMP Consulting, she has recently joined Leeds City Council to lead the Influencing Travel Behaviour team, supporting the ambition and vision the city has for sustainable transport and road safety. Since obtaining CTPP in 2014, Leanne has been a passionate advocate for the qualification through mentoring, being a member of the CTPP Professional Standards Committee and more recently as an assessor for the Portfolio of Technical Knowledge (PTK) route.
Michael Lewis, Senior Structures Advisor, National Highways
Michael Lewis BSc (Hons), MSc, CEng, MCIHT, has over 20 years of experience in the Highways sector and is currently a Senior Structures Advisor at National Highways in Leeds. His current responsibilities include the authoring of a Design Manual of Roads and Bridges standard for the management of fatigue in steel bridges and he is also a subject matter specialist for minor structures design. This work led to him being a co-author of the 2021 revision of the IHE sign structures guide. After completing a part time BSc in Civil Engineering in 2011, he was successful in becoming an Incorporated Engineer in 2015. This encouraged him to return to Leeds Beckett University to study an MSc in Civil Engineering which he completed in 2020. Most recently, Michael was successful in achieving Chartered Engineer status in the spring 2024 review.
Sherin Francis, Associate Director (Transport Planning and Mobility Solutions), Jacobs
Sherin Francis Bsc, Msc, has 9 years of experience working with local and regional transport authorities to develop and deliver major transport programmes. Sherin gained the Chartered Engineer status through CIHT in 2022.She has extensive experience in infrastructure advisory, policy and strategy and business case development. She has provided solutions and supported successful central government programmes for a variety of high value green transport and mobility programmes to local and regional government clients both in the UK and internationally. Sherin's technical expertise is in the development of innovative new low carbon projects, multi-modal infrastructure investment appraisal, regional corridor-wide strategies, programme evaluation, and public and stakeholder engagement. Sherin is also a thought leader in inclusive transport who has published and presented award-winning research at national and international conferences, and participated in National and EU Commission studies. She is currently undertaking industry impact research on public transport accessibility with the University of Oxford.
