CIHT Hong Kong is delighted to offer this guided tour of the Sha Tin Sewage Cavern Project with Franklin To, Resident Geotechnical Engineer (Caverns) at AECOM.
The Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns project is the largest cavern project in Hong Kong. Initiated by the Drainage Services Department in 2014, this transformative endeavor aims to shift the aging Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works into caverns by 2031. Upon completion, a remarkable 28 hectares of land will be reclaimed for diverse and beneficial purposes, addressing current issues relating to landscape, odour and aging facilities arising from the existing sewage treatment works.
This guided tour can provide insights to participants into how innovative solutions are utilized in relocating sewage treatment facilities into caverns and to explore the advanced construction technologies involved. Participants can also learn how the strategic relocation of the sewage treatment plant into caverns unlocks precious land in land-scarce Hong Kong, setting a new opportunity for sustainable development.
This guided tour is targeted to civil and geotechnical engineers of all grades.
