The Lagan Junction to Yorkgate Track Renewals Project was a flagship construction project for Translink, maintaining and improving a critical link in Northern Ireland’s railway network.
The project totalled £30M of investment and involved the renewal of over 2500m track including four switches and crossings, along with integrated signalling, telecoms, electrical and power componentry.
This presentation will describe how the contract and delivery strategy helped to overcome many of the logistical and planning constraints on this project to ensure successful delivery.
Most of the track renewal works were on an elevated 46-span viaduct in central Belfast which spans the river Lagan and several key routes on NI’s strategic road network.
The nature of the site presented significant constraints and logistical challenges which required substantial project planning efforts and the use of novel and innovative construction techniques throughout.
Collaboration between the client Translink, consultant Arup and contractor Babcock through an extensive 16-month Early Contractor Involvement phase was integral to informing and optimising the railway closure and construction implementation strategy for the project.
This event is open to all and will explore the delivery strategy of a major transport construction project.
