CIHT Northern Ireland is delighted to offer this thought provoking webinar, with speakers from the National Transport Authority (NTA).
Organised by CIHT Northern Ireland, this webinar will provide an overview of the NTA regional model development programme, and in particular how they are measuring rural and urban transport emissions. We will be joined by expert speakers from the NTA, Barry Colleary and Niamh Kennedy.
This talk is open to all but will be of particular interest to transport professionals, and will also be of interest to those based in the Republic of Ireland.
Barry Colleary, Head of Transport Modelling at NTA
Barry is the Head of Transport Modelling at the National Transport Authority (NTA) where he has worked since 2009, prior to that he worked in the Dublin Transportation Office as a transport planner in the modelling field. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Civil Struct & Env. Eng., Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin where he lectures on their master’s programme and the current Chair of the Transport Planning Society in Ireland, which is an professional body representing transport planners and policy in Ireland.
Within the NTA, he is responsible for the NTA Regional Model Development programme which develops and maintains models for the five regional cites of Ireland as well as a National Demand Forecasting Model as well as an extensive programme of data collection include the National Household Travel Survey.
Most of the work that Barry has undertaken has been in support of the development and implementation of Strategic Transport Plans for the five regional cites of Ireland and the associated project planning and appraisal. More recently, he has worked with the EPA, SEAI and DoT to leverage the models and data to support work on the Climate Action Plans and Environmental Reporting.
Barry has a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering Science in Transportation Engineering from UCD as well as Diploma in Management (IMI) and Diploma in Applied Project Management (IPM).
Niamh Kennedy, Environmental and Sustainability Manager at NTA
Niamh Kennedy is the Environmental and sustainability Manager in the NTA and has 19 years’ experience in the field of environmental management of transport projects working for both public sector and private clients. She has a degree in environmental science from Trinity College (2000), a post graduate in environmental engineering from Trinity (2004) and a masters in project management from UCD Smurfit (2010). She became a chartered scientist in 2019 with the Institute of Environmental Sciences and since joining the NTA has started a post graduate course in Sustainability and climate leadership with the IPA.
Niamh’s experience relates to feasibility, planning, design, assessment, review, construction and site supervision of environmental elements on transport schemes. She has worked on a range of transport related projects since 2004 including the M3 Clonee to Kells, N8 Cashel to Mitchelstown, Luas Cross City, N63 Liss to Abbey, Kent station redevelopment, Carrigtwohill cycleway and Bus Connects.
