CIHT Cymru Wales are excited to offer this joint webinar on placemaking for the "Transport Decarbonisation in Wales" CPD series in collaboration with ICE and CILT. The presentation will be delivered by Jen Heal, Deputy Chief Executive of the Design Commission for Wales.

Jen Heal - Deputy Chief Executive of the Design Commission for Wales Jen’s background is in urban design and planning and she worked in practice in Wales before joining DCFW as Design Advisor. With a particular interest in placemaking Jen has led on DCFW’s placemaking agenda advising on policy and writing guidance as well as being co-chair of DCFW’s design review service. As Deputy Chief Executive Jen is involved in all areas of DCFW’s work and governance including delivering training to the public and private sector, coordinating events, overseeing client support and the work of the Placemaking Wales Partnership. |
Matthew Gilbert - Head of Active Travel and Placemaking for Transport for Wales With more than 25 years' experience working in transport planning and delivery in the public sector, Matthew is the Head of Active Travel and Placemaking at Transport for Wales. His team is dedicated to making walking, wheeling and cycling the natural choice for journeys in Wales. They offer strategic oversight of the Welsh Government's Active Travel Delivery Plan and foster a positive culture for active travel within the public sector through skills development and process design. Critically, the team manage the Welsh Government's Active Travel Fund, which awards funding for new walking, wheeling and cycling schemes in Wales. Matthew's a passionate advocate for sustainable transport solutions, and their role in securing a healthier and more accessible Wales. |
Jonathan Tricker - Director of Transport, Engineering and Placemaking at PJA Jon is the Sector Director for Placemaking at PJA, bringing over 28 years of experience in integrating transport, engineering, and placemaking. As a highly skilled project director, Jon excels in leading and collaborating with large interdisciplinary teams on complex urban development projects across the UK and Ireland. His expertise lies in the intricate relationship between transport, urban design, and spatial planning, particularly in street design and movement strategies. Jon has played a pivotal role in creating transport and street strategies embedded in placemaking, notably in Garden Villages like Upper Swallick and Buckover. His work also includes advising on major urban projects such as the Birmingham Big City Plan and Temple Quarter in Bristol. Jon’s contributions to street engineering projects, including the Torquay Strand Transformation and Swindon Bus Boulevard, highlight his commitment to high-quality urban design. He is also an active member of Design Review Panels, providing valuable insights into sustainable urban development. |
Matthew McFeat - Technical Director at PJA Matt McFeat is a Technical Director at PJA with 25 years of consultancy experience, specializing in street design and transport planning. As a sector leader, Matt heads the transport planning and traffic engineering team in the South West, where he excels in developing innovative and creative street designs. His expertise lies in integrating best practices with technical and legislative knowledge to deliver impactful highway schemes and access solutions. Matt has played a key role in designing prominent projects such as Swindon Bus Boulevard and the pedestrianization of Tyndall Avenue at the University of Bristol. His work extends across a variety of sectors, including renewable energy and urban redevelopment. With his strong civil engineering background, Matt frequently collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, contributing his street design expertise to large-scale developments like the Filton Airfield urban extension and international design competitions in Luxembourg. |
