Overview

Given the climate crisis and the ongoing efforts in mitigating transportation related emissions, cycling has been emerging as a promising alternative and a climate friendly mobility solution. To fully tap into the potential of cycling, its safety impacts on different socio-demographic groups must be given a full consideration. It is necessary to rethink cycling safety and the role of gender in cyclist crash injury severity outcomes for conventional bikes and e-bikes.

The findings of this research emphasize the need for targeted approaches in designing our cities and policy making that account for the collective differences in behavior and experience of women and men cyclists.

Dr. Natalia Barbour - Assistant Professor at University of Central Florida Dr. Natalia Barbour is an Assistant Professor of Transportation and Smart Cities at the University of Central Florida. Her research applies statistical and econometric models to study travel behavior, transportation safety, shared mobility adoption and aims to explore transportation from the environmental and equitable perspectives. Prior to joining UCF, she was an assistant professor at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. She holds a doctorate in civil engineering from the University of South Florida and completed her postdoctoral training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
