What do Technical Champions do?

There are many projects Technical Champions can be involved with at CIHT. These cover three general areas - reviewing content, knowledge sharing and forming policy, with varying degrees of commitment associated with each area. We understand that your ability to volunteer your time to CIHT will vary throughout the year and we hope that you will be able to find something that suits your interests and levels of involvement.

If any of these projects sound like something you would like to be involved with, you can register your interest here and we will be in contact to provide you with more information.

Reviewing Content

We value the insight that our Technical Champions have when it comes to the ‘on the ground’ problems our sector is facing. We therefore look to Technical Champions to review items such as policy reports, CPD Frameworks, consultation responses or CIHT Learn Courses to ensure that what we are creating will be as valuable as possible to the highways and transportation sector. These activities can be done on an ad-hoc basis and we envisage they will take an hour at a time.

Knowledge Sharing

As a Learned Society, part of CIHT’s mission is to generate and share knowledge through a range of mediums such as blog posts, podcasts and webinars. Technical Champions are invited to suggest topics for these knowledge exchange activities or to contribute to them directly by writing content and being interviewed. These activities occur bi-monthly and will take 1-2 hours of your time.

Forming Policy

We also invite our Technical Champions to join Task & Finish groups to work together with other industry experts to write policy papers on the issues our sector is currently facing such as reducing emissions, using data more effectively or future proofing procurement. These projects require more involvement and it would be expected that you attend and prepare work for monthly meetings over the course of 7-9 months of the year.

As well as the outputs outlined above we also approach our Technical Champions to speak at external events and other opportunities as they arise throughout the year.

Who can become a Technical Champion?

Any of our members with a strong vision for how we can tackle the current problems our sector is facing and the ability to communicate this vision effectively are welcome to apply to be a Technical Champion.

By joining us as a Technical Champion we hope you enjoy the opportunity to network with other likeminded professionals and have your work shared widely.
