Chloe became a CIHT Associate Member and Engineering Technician (EngTech) when she completed her Transport Planning apprenticeship in 2023 through CIHT.

Following the completion of her apprenticeship, Chloe was promoted to Planning Obligations Planner and now supports the planning of large developments or changes to highways or footways in her assigned areas of London.

Chloe is vocal about how she can attribute some of her career advancement to the CIHT CPD activities she undertakes.

Chloe has of course been greatly supported by her employer, TfL, and others along the way, but she is clear the CPD opportunities available through CIHT have also helped her career progression.

Chloe says:

I need to keep up to speed with the ever-changing landscape we work in, and I use CPD to continue to help me understand things like new technologies that are so vital to my work. For example, being a CIHT member enables me to access a regional community of likeminded professionals who work across different disciplines. Whenever I can, I attend a variety of networking, training events and CPD activities that allow me to benefit from other people’s expertise. I love meeting and collaborating with others from across the sector, as I gain more knowledge with every interaction.

When asked what the most valuable CPD lesson she learned is: Chloe says:

I learned that CPD is not just a course that you take to improve your skills in one area, it is about understanding your strengths and weaknesses and developing your skills accordingly as part of a lifelong learning and development journey. Parts of what I learned (and am still learning) through CPD delivered by CIHT, better enables me to help TfL keep parts of London moving. I am so lucky to have an incredibly fulfilling job with a great employer and be supported by a great professional institution.

When asked how CPD can support her career ambitions, Chloe says:

By enabling me to access training and development opportunities that will further my knowledge and skills across many different topics, CPD delivered through CIHT and TfL will continue to support my career ambitions. Being an Associate Member of the CIHT, I also have access to multiple CPD opportunities every month, as well as CIHT Learn, which is their digital learning platform that is designed to help its members progress their highways, transport, and infrastructure career.

When asked for her thoughts about CIHT Learn, Chloe says:

It has many excellent bite-sized courses that can help you develop in many different areas, from improving your carbon literacy, your health and wellbeing and your leadership and management / supervisor skills (to name a few). I want to give people the safe, green, and accessible transport they deserve, and the CPD opportunities available through CIHT Learn give me some of the tools that I need to achieve this.
