We are delighted to offer an exceptional opportunity to our members to represent the CIHT in the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE)’s latest National Engineering Policy Centre (NEPC).

As the leading voice in the highways, transportation and infrastructure sector, CIHT has been asked to join the NEPC to bring crucial insights from the highways sector and be at the heart of national policymaking.

The NEPC will be the go-to partnership for policymakers and government on strategic engineering matters and aims to:

  • Deploy engineering insights
  • Promote engineering and its role in policy
  • Develop an inclusive and forward-looking partnership
  • Extend the expert networks beyond engineering

CIHT’s invitation to participate is a testament to our strengths in harnessing the collective expertise and experiences of our members, ensuring their professional challenges and successes inform the decisions made at the highest level of government and policy.

We are excited to offer our members the chance to play a direct role in shaping the future of UK’s infrastructure.

The Royal Academy of Engineering is now seeking expressions of interest from CIHT members who wish to represent the institution a National Engineering Policy Centre Working Group, for a project on the future management of ageing infrastructures.

The initiative, chaired by Steve Denton, Executive Director of Civil Engineering at WSP, will bring together a diverse group of experts from various infrastructure sectors, including asset operators, inspectors, and earthworks specialists.

The project aims to create a compelling, evidence-based approach to managing UK’s ageing infrastructure, offering practical policy recommendations for future strategies.

The CIHT’s representative will take part in virtual meetings to guide the project’s strategic direction, contribute to evidence-gathering workshops and roundtables, review drafts reports and advocate the final recommendations.
The project will run for 12 months and we are looking for volunteers who can commit their time over this period.

The Academy will make a selection that ensures diversity across the Working Group, so particularly welcomes expressions from under-represented groups within the engineering profession.

To express your interest, please send a brief paragraph about the skills and experience you would bring to the project to technical@ciht.org.uk

Closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 30th August.

By joining this prestigious initiative, CIHT will be at the forefront of national decision-making, working alongside a coalition of 42 professional engineering organizations, led by the Royal Academy of Engineering. Together, we will provide insights, advice, and practical policy recommendations to address complex national and global challenges
