The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) is delighted to have been asked to participate in a November workshop "Achieving Resilient Freight Electromobility across Road and Rail", hosted by DARe, TransiT, and ENSIGN.

The workshop will be held in Edinburgh over two days on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th November 2024. The workshop will aim to cover a range of urgent issues around road and rail freight electrification, such as distribution, battery technology, and climate resilience. There will be a focus on how these factors influence the operations of a range of stakeholders, including rail and road freight operators, logistics hubs, energy generators and distributors, and blue light services.

CIHT represents a diverse and influential range of industry stakeholders, across 12 UK regions and several international groups.

This workshop is an exciting opportunity for CIHT to bring its members’ voice to the discussion and we are delighted to announce we are seeking volunteers to attend the workshop who would then report back on the discussion and any learning which could be shared with other members.

The workshop will bring together leaders in the field of transport and energy to identify and address the key issues in the transition to freight electromobility. CIHT will bring knowledge and expertise to the workshop, helping to influence the future by guiding policymakers towards a sustainable and resilient freight electrification.

The organisers have specifically requested CIHT’s presence, recognising the invaluable work CIHT has done to promote economically and environmentally sustainable transport infrastructure.

As set out in our manifesto, A Transport Network Fit for All Our Futures, CIHT believes transport networks must be resilient, promoting the need to future-proofing of transport infrastructure against the inevitable impacts of climate change.

CIHT is currently working on a project, supported by DARe Hub, exploring how the highways sector can improve the UK road network in terms of resilience and adaptability to extreme weathers. As the leading voice of the highways, transportation, infrastructure and services profession, we are committed to positively influencing this agenda by working with members, stakeholders and decision-makers.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact technical@ciht.org.uk by midday 6th September 2024. Unfortunately, CIHT will not be able to cover any expenses such as travel or hotel etc.
