The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) has submitted a response to the Department for Transport (DfT) to support the development of an Integrated National Transport Strategy (INTS) for England.

The Department for Transport is seeking ideas for the Integrated National Transport Strategy (INTS) which will set the high-level direction for how transport should be designed, built and operated in England over the next 10 years.

Key recommendations submitted by CIHT included:  

• Deliver a sustained modal shift in line with the sustainable transport hierarchy - thus contributing to the net zero mission. 
• Significantly improve resilience and access to reliable and affordable connectivity to economic opportunity for people and businesses - thus contributing to the growth mission. 
• Deliver a safer, cleaner, and more inclusive transport network - thus contributing to the health mission.
• Improve customer choice and experience - thus contributing to the breaking down barriers to opportunity mission.

CIHT calls for the strategy to be vision-led and treat England’s transport networks as a system of systems.
