This unique project, in collaboration with Child Friendly Leeds (CFL) and CIHT STEM Ambassadors from the region, offers an incredible opportunity for professionals across the transportation sector to make a real impact on the communities they serve.

Get Involved: Volunteer and Make a Difference
The initiative is looking for participants from across the transportation sector to volunteer their time to help roll out engagement events across schools in the Yorkshire region this year. Volunteers will play a key role in gathering insights from children, helping design safer, more engaging spaces for play and social interaction. The project is calling on those with a passion for making a difference to lend their time and expertise this Spring Term.

In addition, several sponsorship packages are available to support the upcoming Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) conference and various STEM activities to draw together the inputs. For more details on how to get involved or sponsor, contact yorkshireandthehumber@ciht.org.uk

How it works
The initiative will kick off by asking children across the region to develop their vision for streets near them. From April to July, feedback from school children will be collected and used as the foundation for the region’s annual EDI conference in September, focusing on the needs of younger generations.

At the conference, transportation professionals will have the chance to participate in a "design hack," where they will work together to turn children’s ideas into high-level design concepts. These concepts will then be shared with participating schools in the autumn term, giving students the chance to evaluate how their suggestions have been transformed into potential transportation schemes.

Inspiring the next generation of transportation professionals
In addition to empowering children, the initiative will also raise awareness of careers in highways and transportation. Volunteers will help deliver STEM activities that introduce children to the exciting possibilities in the field.
