Understanding the CIHT CPD review process

Each year, CIHT conducts a random review of its members' CPD records. Selected members receive an email titled "Action Needed – CPD Annual Review". The email requests the submission of their CPD records and Development Action Plans (DAPs) for both the previous year and the year ahead. Selected members must respond promptly to remain in compliance with our Code of Conduct. Please see our CPD guide for more information about the annual review process.

CIHT resources to support your CPD needs

CIHT has many resources to support our members ongoing professional development and learning:

CIHT Learn

Our digital learning platform, CIHT Learn is designed to help members identify, undertake, record and maintain their CPD. It offers over 90 free to member courses that have been designed to support the development of highways and transportation professionals. CIHT Learn also provides excellent development tools, such as its DAP and SWOT analysis functions to help members pinpoint their development needs and establish clear, SMART objectives. If selected for the CPD review, the CPD record can be downloaded from CIHT Learn for easy compliance.

Transport Decarbonisation Pathway

CIHT expects all Members to undertake some CPD related to the topic of transport decarbonisation, reflecting our commitment to climate action. The Transport Decarbonisation Pathway is a CIHT resource aimed at guiding our members to CPD that focuses on sustainable practices and to help them better understand the impact of decarbonization in the sector.

CIHT Events

CIHT workshops, webinars, conferences and events are a great way to achieve well rounded development. Events keep members well informed about emerging trends and challenges in the transportation sector, and adaptable to industry changes. This year sees the return of our annual conference building on our extensive events programme. With a mixture of face-to-face and online and a vast range of topics there are lots of opportunities for learning Please see our CIHT Events page for more information.

What makes a good CPD record - insights from the CIHT CPD Panel

CIHTs CPD reviewers are members of our CPD panel. They are CIHT members with a commitment to CPD who volunteer their time to assess and provide feedback to selected members. We asked the panel what they expect to see in a good CPD record and Development Action Plan.

Relevance

CPD records should include a variety of CPD activities with some CPD on the topic of transport decarbonisation. Activities should align with the members personal and professional development goals and where possible, be relevant to the members role and / or to industry best practice / standards.

Reflection

CPD records and DAPs should include an element of personal reflection that demonstrates thoughtful consideration of how the learning undertaken impacts professional work practices and personal activities. Thinking about what you’ve learnt from an activity and how you will apply it. Good reflective practice enables further development, improves future CPD planning and demonstrates how skills have been effectively implemented in real-world scenarios.

Consistency

Good CPD records should demonstrate regular engagement in CPD activities throughout the year, meeting the minimum requirement of 25 hours annually.

Documentation

A comprehensive CPD and DAP record that details the nature, duration, and outcomes of each CPD activity. CIHT Learn is a great tool for CIHT members, as it provides text fields for all of the information that reviewers look for in CPD and DAP submissions.

Agnieszka Jezierska, CPD Panel Chair, emphasises the significance of structured CPD. Aga says:

In our dynamic ever-changing industry, there are multiple ways that CPD can help us stay on top. Engaging in regular, diverse and reflective CPD activities and practices enhances individual skills, contributes to the broader advancement of our profession and ensures that professionals remain competent and competitive in their area of expertise.
