Technology centre the Transport Systems Catapult has announced that it is looking for participants to help accelerate innovation in transport at a ‘Hackathon’ event in November.

The inaugural ‘IMCreate’ event will see teams of experts collaborate while on the move to develop intelligent mobility solutions aimed at addressing problems within the UK's transport network.

Teams will develop their ideas while travelling from London to Milton Keynes using a number of different transport modes. Participants will have access to cutting edge software and hardware as well as the Catapult’s transport data index, which publically catalogues information and data from more than 200 sources.

“The fusion of creativity and technical prowess is critical to solving the transport challenges of today and tomorrow,” said IMCreate organiser Charles Carter of the Catapult’s information exploitation team.

“We aim to develop the ideas which will revolutionise how we move people and goods around the country, using data and information the Catapult has gathered from all modes of transport as inspiration.”

IMCreate 2015 is expected to bring together more than 100 data scientists, software engineers, business thinkers, marketers and innovators, as well as public and private transport sector users and suppliers.

The event will conclude at the Catapult’s ‘Imovation’ Centre facility. A panel of leaders from industry and academia will choose the three best solutions developed.

Mr Carter said: “We are confident that fresh thinking developed at IMCreate will lead to new transport projects or start up companies that will become transport industry leaders in the future, creating jobs and growth in the UK.”

The event will take place over the weekend of 14 and 15 November. Those interested in taking part should email IMCreate@ts.catapult.org.uk
