Highways England has appointed Nick Harris as new Chief Executive and has announced it will change its company name to 'National Highways'.

Highways England has has appointed Nick Harris as new Chief Executive. Nick joined Highways England in 2016 and has been Acting Chief Executive since February 2021. According to Highways England Chairman Dipesh J Shah, "Nick’s experience in deploying large scale contracting and supply chain management, coupled with extensive operational delivery expertise, will take the Company forward as it delivers on the investment in the Strategic Road Network and world class safety for all who use or work on our roads."
Highways England and the Department for Transport have furthermore announced that Highways England will change its name to ‘National Highways’. Highways England Chairman Dipesh J Shah said: "The name change recognises that the Strategic Road Network is entering a new era as it delivers the Government’s target for net zero carbon, and takes opportunities afforded by digitisation, automation, and autonomous vehicles. The change also better reflects how the Government’s £27billion investment in the Strategic Road Network helps to connect England’s regions, ports and international trade corridors, and further recognises the role the Company has in setting Highways standards used across the UK."
