Roy Brannen CBE has been awarded the prestigious CIHT Institution Award.
Professor Glenn Lyons, President, CIHT presented the award at the CIHT Annual Luncheon at Grosvenor House Hotel, London on the 13 December 2024.
I am delighted to be able to present Roy Brannen CBE with our Institution Award. Roy is a worthy recipient who has demonstrated real leadership in our sector’s challenge to decarbonise. The CIHT Institution Award is chosen by our Board of Trustees and is in recognition of excellence within the transportation profession. We are honoured to present it to Roy to celebrate the many significant contributions he has made that have benefited the public and the profession.
The CIHT Annual Luncheon 2024 also saw an address from Stephen Fidler, Director for Buses & Inclusion at the Department for Transport. Stephen outlined the upcoming work of the Department for Transport and have a genuine insight into how new ways of working were being introduced in working with the new government. A more detailed story on the event will appear soon.
Roy Brannen CBE
Roy Brannen CBE is currently the Scottish Government’s Director-General for Net Zero responsible for the policy on delivering Scotland’s targets to achieve net zero by 2045.
This includes areas such as agriculture, rural economy, energy, climate change, environment, forestry, marine and transport. He also oversees the work of three agencies: Transport Scotland, Forestry and Land Scotland and Scottish Forestry.
Roy was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to transport in Scotland in 2023.
Prior to this role, Roy Brannen was Chief Executive of Transport Scotland from 2015.
He was in charge during the development of Scotland’s second National Transport Strategy, published in 2020.
This award is presented annually to recognise an individual for excellence within the transportation profession. It is based on the following criteria:
The person should have been responsible for or have promoted a major piece of research leading to the extension of knowledge in the field of highways and transportation.
Or
The person should have made a significant contribution to policy formulation technology or management in the field of highways and transportation.
Or
The person should have played an outstanding role in the provision of infrastructure which could be either a specific project or a concept with general application.
