The weather is changing, it is predicted to get worse and globally countries aren’t responding. Weather events in transport do endanger life, they disrupt services, reduce revenue and they increase cost, (through direct damage to infrastructure or to insurance premiums) – part of the challenge is that transport underpins our daily lives and has a direct and more difficult calculation on the impact of our society as a whole
Simon Shapcott, Net Zero Director
The positive message is that you can get on top of these risks and you can predict potential climate change over a number of years and look at different scenarios that are likely to impact a particular area, asset, network or region. Once you identify and understand your hot spots, you can then begin to plan, anticipate, and prioritise impacts on your transport system and adapt and influence your decision making…. to maintain safety
Simon Shapcott, Net Zero Director
We need to be people centred about this, we need to encourage people through communication, but we also need to enable them through design – social and behavioural science is a golden thread through all of this. It comes into every stage of what we do, from understanding the problem, to ideating options, designing solutions and crucially we need to evaluate what we are doing, so we can continue to learn
