The statutory ‘Code of practice 2013’ is a revision to the existing ‘Code of practice 2001’. Known informally as the ‘safety code’ or the ‘red book’, it comes into force on 1 October 2014 and provides updated guidance on safe working at street works and road works sites.
The Chair of CIHT’s Network Management Panel, Dave Pownall, said: “CIHT welcomes the revisions which will remove some long standing inconsistencies, ensuring all works promoters on the highway and local authorities comply with the same standards of signing and guarding.
“This will also provide consistency for road users as they will come across consistent standards of signing and guarding.”
