The latest updates, published on 11 March 2024, introduce a few small improvements to the TPP application process. This includes the introduction of a separate application form, designed to separate personal information from the Portfolio of Evidence (PoE). This measure aims to ensure that assessors can focus solely on evaluating the content of the PoE without being influenced by any personal details of the applicant. A word version of the template is also now available on the website, so applicants no longer need to email the Education Team to request this.

The PSC has updated the requirement for the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) record to be signed by the line manager. Previously, the requirement for a signature on the CPD record raised questions about whether all relevant CPD was being included, particularly for individuals engaged in CPD activities beyond their workplace. The updated guidance clarifies that the CPD record no longer needs to be signed off by a line manager. Instead, it should encompass all relevant CPD activities undertaken by the individual, regardless of whether they were specific to their workplace or not.

The updated guidance also clarifies that the word count allowance for each competency or knowledge unit has a margin of plus or minus 10%, providing applicants with greater flexibility to showcase their skills and experiences effectively.

CIHT’s Head of Education and Professional Development, Cat Goumal, emphasised the importance of these changes in ensuring fairness and inclusivity within the application process. "Our goal is to ensure that Chartered Transport Planning Professional is open to all eligible transport planners. These improvements are a positive step towards eliminating any potential barriers or biases that may hinder the recognition of candidates.”

As the changes do not fundamentally change what is expected from candidates, anyone who has started their application on the old forms and intends to submit in 2024 is not expected to transfer their application onto the new templates unless they wish to.

The updated guidance documents, application forms and templates can be downloaded from the CIHT website Transport Planning Professional | CIHT
