The University of Westminster has been running a postgraduate programme in Transport Planning since 1971 and a number of graduates from the university have gone on to make a significant impact in the transport sector. Following an internal review the course has been updated and the updated MSc Transport Planning programme has now received official approval from the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) Professional Standards Committee, run jointly by the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) and the Transport Planning Society (TPS). This approval marks an important milestone for the university and its graduates, affirming that the programme continues to meet the rigorous standards required for Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP) status.

Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP) is designed to recognise transport planning professionals who not only possess strong technical expertise but also have the professional skills essential to transport planning. The TPP Professional Standards Committee’s approval of the MSc programme reflects the University of Westminster’s commitment to producing graduates equipped to address the complex challenges facing the transport sector today.

Nick Ruxton-Boyle, former chair of the TPP Professional Standards Committee said, “As an alumni it was nice to see how the course has evolved over the last 10ish years and responded to changes in the sector. I am particularly interested in the way in which data and climate change is changing how we look at transport challenges and I think this refreshed course is well placed to give the transport planners of the future a good toolbox to drive and influence sustainable change.”

Dr Tom Cohen, Course Leader for the MSc Transport Planning at the University of Westminster said “At Westminster, we’re very proud of our long-standing association with the TPP qualification.  It’s extremely important to us that the MSc Transport Planning equip people with the skills to be effective in the transport sector.  TPP accreditation is a clear sign that we’re getting this right so we are delighted that the course has been reapproved.”

Cat Goumal, Head of Education and Professional Development at the CIHT, highlighted the importance of TPP-accredited programmes in shaping the future of the transport planning profession. “The University of Westminster has demonstrated a real commitment to aligning its curriculum with TPP standards, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for professional success. We are delighted to see the MSc Transport Planning approved for TPP, and we look forward to many more Westminster graduates making their mark in the transport planning field.”

With the TPP approval in place, graduates from Westminster’s MSc Transport Planning programme now have a clear route towards achieving Chartered Transport Planning Professional status after graduating.
