Country Champions

With members in over 80 countries CIHT Country Champions are key to the Institution in supporting and growing its international membership and helping to deliver our vision to be the leading professional highways and transportation body globally. 

Role of the Country Champion

A Country Champion will be a CIHT member based within the country they are championing and a key link between members living in their country of residence and the CIHT.  Their role is to offer support and advice to CIHT members in their country or region by sharing their knowledge and experience of the local industry, social networks and culture, as well as providing the CIHT with in-country information, to assist with its international activities.  This is a voluntary role and we do not provide direct renumeration for this post.

How to become a Country Champion

To become a Country Champion, you must be a member of the CIHT. We welcome Country Champions from a range of transportation backgrounds and sectors who want to get involved with the Institution’s activities and meet like-minded people.

Requirements of a Country Champion

  • Have an interest in promoting highways and transportation and the CIHT’s vision and values locally
  • Support and assist local members with membership advice
  • Act as a liaison between members in your country of residence and the CIHT by seeking members’ views and providing feedback to the Institution to aid in representing members’ professional and industry interests
  • Raise the profile of the Institution and the highways and transportation profession and assist in growing members locally
  • Act as a first point of call to the Institution to discuss in-country matters - this could include information on potential members, education and training, research, key engineering organisations in country, including specialist societies, government departments, non-government organisations (NGOs).
  • Provide feedback on your experiences as a volunteer
  • Support local and national events as appropriate
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Institution’s objectives locally.  

Terms of Office

The position of Country Champion is held for one year.  After this period there will be the option to renew for a further year, subject to agreed approval.

CIHT commitment to you

  • Access to CIHT volunteer network
  • Reimbursement for any out-of-pocket expenses incurred while on CIHT related voluntary work (eg, travel and subsistence to be agreed in advance).
