The AGM will see the Chair, Ed Downer, reflect on his first year in office and the successes of CIHT Yorkshire & the Humber in contributing to the transport profession and the CIHT’s national activities, as well as looking ahead to his second year and plans for the region.  The AGM will see the election of new committee members and Officers to take forward CIHT Yorkshire & the Humber's plans for the next year.

Invitation to join the regional committee

The CIHT regional committee works to promote the institution across the Yorkshire and Humber region.  We thrive on the enthusiasm and initiative of our committee to help our wider membership to champion equality, diversity and inclusion, to access learning and professional development opportunities, and to tackle the climate emergency.

We are looking for people from all backgrounds to join our committee and help us deliver a programme for the years ahead. Our committee is a hybrid team, meaning that we meet both in person and online at the convenience of our group. Whilst this is a voluntary undertaking, you’ll get to meet people from across the sector with a similar passion and enthusiasm for the sector who can support you in your role. We are looking for people to take up either fixed roles on the committee, or to join as more flexible committee members.

What’s involved?

You will be invited to attend our committee meetings approximately once every two months.  You may be given a specific activity to progress between meetings that will usually not involve more than 1-2 hours input per week.

Committee Membership

As a committee member, you will be able to attend our meetings every 2 months to discuss the programme, and the flexibility to take part in a number of programmes of activities on an ad hoc basis.  These activities include:

• Promoting Equality Diversity and Inclusion
• Attracting and recruiting new CIHT members
• Engaging with emerging career professionals
• Hosting Continuous Professional Development (CPD) events

Fixed Roles

In these roles, you will have a dedicated responsibility and will be invited to attend our committee meetings and briefings from the CIHT office: 

• Vice Chair: You would support the current chair over the next year in delivering this year’s programme of events, focusing on our Annual Conference and Annual Awards Dinner.  You will then become the new Regional Chair in May 2026.
• Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Officer: You would be the region’s EDI representative, responsible for organising events and championing causes aligned to the CIHT Strategy.  This role can be shared by up to 2 people.
• Events Coordinator: You would be responsible for arranging a programme of events across the region, collaborating with our Emerging Professionals committee and other institutions to ensure the programme is balanced and representative of our membership
• Deputy Secretary: You would support our current Secretary in arranging and recording committee meetings and responding to regional correspondence
• Deputy Recruitment Officer: You would support our recruitment team to attract and retain members in the Yorkshire and The Humber region, working with employers and educational institutions to highlight the benefits of membership
